It’s not long until the annual Cumbria Tourism Awards. This is the 12th year of the awards with the ceremony to be held at The Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on Tuesday June 17 2014.
With categories ranging from attractions to accommodation providers of all types and sizes through to awards for outstanding achievements, the Cumbria Tourism Awards aim to give recognition for the hard work and dedication businesses give to the exciting, beautiful and growing tourism economy in the Lake District and Cumbria.
New to the category list at the 2013 awards was “Tourism Pub”. With such a high number of breweries producing nationally recognised ales to the food being found in many Lake District pubs and inns at the moment, it is a welcome sight to sees these businesses given their own specific group. This year three very exciting and worthy South Lakeland pubs have made the finals this year, Wild Boar Inn, Grill & Smokehouse – Windermere, Tweedies Bar – Grasmere and Cuckoo Brow Inn, Far Sawrey.
The Cuckoo Brow Inn, formally the Sawrey Hotel, has been growing from strength to strength since being purchased by the South Lakes Hotel Group opening in the summer of 2012. Having undergone major refurbishment throughout including the 14 en-suite bedrooms, the Cuckoo Brow is known for its food and ales as well as its welcoming service. Their strap line “Muddy boots, wet dogs and Children welcome” is the perfect way in which to describe the relaxed atmosphere whilst visitors and guests are able to enjoy high quality cooking with the finest of local, Lake District produce. So for this inn to be, within 2 years, reaching the finals of such a highly prestigious ceremony is an excellent accolade as it is.
The exciting prospect for each winner, on top of winning their category, is they will be then entered into 2015 Visit England National Awards. The Watermill Inn at Ings having won Tourism Pub of the year at the CT awards last year, made the finals of the national awards this year and received the silver position. It just shows how important the regional awards are to the finalists this and every year.
