Langdale pub wins pub of the season

Wainwrights’ Inn in the Langdale Valley owned and run by the Langdale Estate, has won Camra Westmorland District pub of season.

Wainwrights’ Inn is not only owned and run by the Langdale Estate but it also sits within it and is one of the four venues for eating and drinking the estate has.

The inn is an extremely popular place for anyone visiting the area as well as staying on the Langdale Estate whether that be as a timeshare, self catering or hotel guest. Wainwrights’ is a traditional Lake District inn serving real ale and food throughout the day. Having been a firm favourite for those visiting the area for years now, certain dishes have to be on the menu and are renowned such as the aptly titled “Wainwrights’ famous lamb shoulder, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, minted red
wine sauce” and the fish & chips. It doesn’t matter how hot it is outside or how often the menu changes, this dish HAS to be included otherwise there is an uproar!

But it is real ale that has won Wainwrights’ its latest accolade. Ales from Cumbrian breweries as well as from the North West are always on offer including beers from Dent Brewery, Barngates Brewery, Ulverston Brewing Company, Hesket Newmarket, Cumbrian Legendary Ales and from out of the county, Moorhouse’s of Burnley and many more that are constantly changing. One permanent ale is the Jennings Nurture Lakeland ale. For every pint sold, Jennings donate 5p to Nurture Lakeland, the project that helps to preserve and maintain the beautiful Lake District landscape that many of the visitors to Wainwrights’ have just experienced and enjoyed.

Within the Langdale Estate now there are a choice of 2 hotels, the latest being the Brimstone Hotel which opened June 2013. Despite this being a festival of luxury and complete uniqueness beyond what many guests have ever experienced before and with Purdey’s Restaurant on the estate for Brimstone guests to use, all but a handful frequent Wainwrights’ at least once which is noted by first class comments on social media.
